Last night as we were leaving the airport and heading to our hotel, we made conversation with the other stranded individuals about how poorly Delta treats everyone. It became quite the amusing conversation to say the least. We were in good company of miserable people that had also been screwed over by such a terrible airline service. How can a cheap hotel and a $6.00 voucher for food make up for a full days worth of work that my husband had to basically swallow? I don't understand why sitting on the runway for 30 minutes at a time is so fascinating to Delta. They do it so often that it forces individuals to be late for their connecting flights. No matter how much you belly ache about it, they don't seem to give two poops about what you are going through or how it has affected your lives. All they care about is just getting you out of their face to deal with the next aggravated customer. We spent hour after hour in lines and running through airports from
gate to gate. To then be shewed off with some lousy vouchers for food and a stay at a swanky (super sarcastic) hotel. On the bright side, my husband and I made the front desk clerk at the hotel, laugh and cheered her up for having been verbally abused by other people in our very situation. So she hooked us up with a suite! Yes ladies and gentlemen, we stood in a suite. Now don't get all emotional about that. It was a suite in not-so-great hotel so we just appreciate it as being less crummy than the other rooms. We had a pretty cheesy hot tub in our room, fully equipped with surrounding disco mirrors that were even above us on the ceiling. Lol! At least it wasn't a crap hole. We've been stuck in hotels before, that would rival places so crummy you would see them on a television show or something. Worlds worse hotels or motels. Anyway, that was the extent of our fabulous night in Detroit. We woke up early in the morning to begin our usual airport run (from gate to gate if its with Delta). Once we got to our gate we were greeted by a lovely airport worker (again being super sarcastic) who said in a rude snotty voice "its not 9:00 yet, come back in an hour". Yup, we were once again shewed away from the gate because we were there too early. Gasp! The nerve of us being at the gate early! Its such a travesty. How we could be such an inconvenience to that worker in gate A63 was beyond me. We got on the plane (finally) after that and once we got home to our Orlando airport, we stood in a huge crowd waiting for our bags. After being there for what seemed like an eternity, we noticed that baggage claim area was now pretty empty and our bags were yet to be found. Ugh.....here we go. More drama! So we ended up having to stand in line at the security office and lo and behold, our bags were sitting there outside of the office. Apparently, when we missed our flight yesterday, our bags seemed to have made it without us. Well its a good thing Ralph and I didn't try to get our bags in Detroit cause we would have waiting for a few more hours in a line for absolutely nothing.
After such a long day of exhausting travel from one state to another...we made it home and in one piece. I really do love traveling just as long as its not with Delta. We've already been stuck in Atlanta for 24 hours with no bags and no vouchers or hotel. We have gates switched on us 6 times in a row with no airplane or pilot to fly us back home. We've run from one side of an airport to another to have the gate door shut right before our eyes (an no one even remotely caring how it affected us) and of course now we have our latest fiasco of rude employees, late flights, crummy hotels and no compensation. Sigh....you know what? Ralph and I have flown with Air Tran airlines so many times and not once ever had this happen to us. I would recommend Air Tran Airlines to anyone. I would never ever ever recommend Delta. I have yet to have a single experience with them that actually came out positive. Ok, that was my soap box moment for the day!
